Holy Week | Friday

Daily Scripture Reading: John 19:16–30
Good Friday carries a kind of sorrow that makes you stop for a minute. It draws you into the weight of what happened there. The betrayal. The injustice. The suffering. And still, in the middle of all that pain, there is something holy unfolding. There is an exchange.
Barabbas is released, and Jesus is handed over. The guilty man walks free, and the innocent One takes his place. This is the gospel.
Jesus steps into the place of the sinner and bears what never belonged to Him. He receives judgment, shame, and the weight of sin, so we can be free. That is the kind of love we find at the cross. A love that does not turn away. A mercy that does not run out. A Savior who gives Himself fully.
Good Friday reminds us that we do not have to hide when we come to Jesus. We come with what is true. We come with our sin, our sorrow, our regret, and our need. And there at the cross, we find grace waiting for us.
So today, take a moment and sit with the wonder of this exchange. Jesus took our place so we could walk in freedom. He carried our sin so we could know mercy. He gave Himself in love so we could be made new.
From the choice of Barabbas to the final breath on the cross, He’s still the King.
Guiding Question: What are you still carrying that Jesus already carried for you, and what would it look like to release it to Him today?
Guiding Kidspoint Question: Jesus took Barabbas’ place. What does it mean that Jesus takes our place too, and how can you thank Him today?
Prayer: Jesus, You are still the King. Thank You for taking my place. I bring You what I have been carrying, my sin, my pain, and my shame, and I receive Your forgiveness and peace. Restore me to the Father through what You have done. Amen.
