6 If Saul wonders where I am, tell him, “David asked me to let him go
to his hometown of Bethlehem, so he could take part in a sacrifice his family makes there every year.”
                                                                              1 Samuel 20:6 (CEV page 245)

Getting what you shouldn’t want…

Sunday In 1 Samuel 20 we see David go to his best friend Jonathan, who happens to be King Saul’s son, and ask for help to escape King Saul.  King Saul was trying to kill David because he was jealous of David.  Jonathan and David devise this plan which involves lying about David leaving town to be with his family.  They play out their plan and David escapes but King Saul gets so mad that Jonathan almost ends up with his dad’s spear right through him.  As I mentioned Sunday, there are some great lessons for us in this story, but they aren’t obvious but are found in the details.
In most situations you and I always look for the easiest way out.  And even if it means that we have to bend a little morally we justify this if it makes things less controversial.  David and Jonathan are in a tight spot and so they derive a plan (1) without prayer AND (2) that is based on a lie about David leaving town.  God tells us to come to Him especially when we are weary and heavy laden and He will give us rest.  He will show us and remind us of how we need to handle the problem we are facing.  But even more than this we cannot base our solutions on sin.  No matter how much easier we think it may be or how innocent the sin may seem to be…sin always has a cost.  Think of the potential available to David and Jonathan to not give in to a plan based on sin.  What could have happened if they have based their plan on God’s way and not their own?  Even in tough situations we have the potential to do great things if we will choose God way and even worse possibly a way based on sin.
The Bible tells us that if God is for us then no one can be against us and really do us any real harm.  Why is David afraid of King Saul?  Granted he is the King of Israel, but David has just killed the giant Goliath and received a direct message from God that he would be the next chosen king.  David and Jonathan had the opportunity…the potential to make a stand on the promises God had made them.  They did not need to be afraid of Saul.  We do not have to ever live in fear because God has promised us that He will always be with us.

Love The Church
We need your help with worship!
We want to have a group of praise singers each Sunday.  The basic idea is we would have two microphones...
(1) for melody AND (2) for harmony.
You don't even have to be able to sing! Leading worship is more about spirit and enthusiasm than it is about vocal ability.  The important thing is to express passion and lead others to authentically worship God.
We would like to have 3 or more vocalists on stage every Sunday leading our church family to worship as God said ..."in spirit and truth".  So whether you can sing really well, just a little or you can only "make a joyful noise"...come help us!
Singing Kitty To be a part of this you can either

* Use your What's Up card.
* Email the church or
* Talk with someone on the worship team.

Join us to love The Word and love your church in this way!

Our Café Needs You

Note from the Office Managers: The freezer has now been fixed, and the refrigerator should be fixed this week, so now we can replenish our stock of baked goods and be able to store them! Thanks to all of you who donated last week. Everyone please consider Leslie's appeal below.

From Leslie Pennington:
Hi folks, you may have noticed that our Sunday morning café fare has been a little sparse since the fridge has been out of order.  I know we have some wonderful cooks in our church, so if you would be interested in baking some goodies or just donating some already baked goods ( bagels, muffins, or even fruit would be good too)  for a Sunday morning, it would be most welcome!  In fact we used to have different folks sign up to bring something once a month or so.  I’ll be putting a sign up sheet out on the information table in the auditorium this Sunday so be on the look out for it.  Thanks so very much.
Leslie Pennington, Cafe Ministry Leader

Also, if you would like to help the café ministry by donating one of the following items periodically, please contact Leslie Pennington.

If you can help provide, we need the following:
- Individual packs of Equal (sweetener)
- Coffeemate powdered creamer in assorted flavors, french vanilla, hazelnut,
  chocolate, vanilla, caramel, cinnamon.
- Hot chocolate packets
- We always welcome breakfast food items - homemade or not! :)
- White unscented tall pillar glass candles for worship tables (these can be
found at Wal-Mart or similar store)

  Thank you in advance!

SonShine Kids needs volunteers...
We have had a few teachers stop helping for school or personal health issues. We are in need of two PRE-K helpers and two nursery helpers. We are starting a new program soon, and your job would be to love on kids and let them know that God loves them! You can help once or twice a month, the choice is up to you! Contact Cassie Hancock if you are interested!

We look forward to seeing you this Sunday, and don't forget to tell someone every day...

"I Love My
Church!"

Sincerely,

Staff & Office Ministry Volunteers    :)
